Police said Dixon was in a cab prior to the crash and told the driver to drop him off on Briley Parkway. The cabbie refused and instead dropped him on Elm Hill Pike. Police say Dixon left his wallet in the taxi and then walked to Briley, walking north on the southbound shoulder.

The truck driver told police he was in the far right lane, planning to exit to Elm Hill. He said Dixon made eye-contact with him and then jumped in front of his truck, giving him no time to avoid hitting him.
