Police: Off-Duty Officer Thwarts Machete-Wielding Burgulars Outside South Nashville Walmart

Police say a trio of would-be robbers tried to hold up a homeless man outside Walmart on Nolensville Road early Tuesday.

NASHVILLE, TN — An off-duty Nolensville police officer working late-night security foiled a robbery attempt by three suspects, one of whom was wielding a machete.

The officer, working the third shift at the Nolensville Road Walmart, spotted three people attempting to rob a homeless man outside the store around 3:30 Tuesday morning, according to a police report. The man was sitting in his truck when the trio approached and demanded money. One of the three was wearing camoflauge and carrying a machete. They made off with $20 and the man's cell phone.

The officer, however, was able to catch two of the suspects and hold them until Metro Police arrived. The third suspect was found and arrested nearby.
