Sleepy Driver Rescued After Crashing Into Utility Pole On Bell Road

A portion of Bell Road was closed for an hour Thursday morning as crews worked to extricate a trapped driver.

ANTIOCH, TN — A driver who reportedly fell asleep at the wheel was trapped in his car for 25 minutes early Thursday morning after crashing into a Bell Road utility pole.

Metro Police said the man crossed all four travel lanes on Bell Road around 5:15 Thursday morning, hitting a utility pole once he left the roadway, snapping it.

It took Nashville Fire crews nearly a half hour to extricate him from the car. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bell Road was closed until about 6:30 a.m.
