Brentwood Fire Chief: Party Debris Sparks Porch Blaze at Antebellum Home

Firefighters contain damage to porch of 1850s home on Seward Road

Detritus from a late-night party may have started a fire that threatened an antebellum home in Brentwood.

Brentwood Fire crews responded to a porch fire on Seward Road Monday morning and were able to contain the blaze and keep it from spreading to the rest of the home, which was built in the 1850s.

Brentwood Fire Chief Brian Goss told Channel 4 the fire had a difficult time spreading because of the quality construction of the historic home. Goss said the fire was started by "smoking materials" left on the porch during a party hosted at the home the night before.
