Brentwood, Franklin Send Firefighters to Gatlinburg

BRENTWOOD, TN — Brentwood and Franklin are among the scores of cities across Tennessee sending fire personnel to fight the blaze in Sevier County that has led to the evacuation of thousands and destroyed hundreds of buildings.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency put out a statewide call for assistance as a 10-acre fire on Chimney Top spread rapidly Monday into a 500-acre blaze that threatened the popular resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge near Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Nearly every department in Middle Tennessee is deploying to the fire, which had nearly 50 departments fighting it late Monday.
