First Meeting Held On Williamson County School Start Time Switch

The director of schools says no decision has been made about delaying high-school starts as parents express concerns for elementary kids.

WIlliamson County Schools hosted the first in a series of meetings about changing the start times for the county's schools.

Most of the discussion heading into the meetings has centered around the concept of delaying the start times in high school, particularly after a series of studies demonstrated the advantages of letting teenagers start school later; however, plenty of concerns were raised about what an earlier start time might mean for younger students.

If high school start times move to 8:30, the elementary schools would move their opening bell to 7:30, which would mean getting younger children out the door earlier and, according to WKRN, parents expressed worry about those youngsters having to wait for the bus in the dark during the winter months.
