Williamson County Schools Rezoning Imperiled

Without funding for the new Brentwood elementary school, a planned rezoning may be scrapped.

FRANKLIN, TN — Williamson County's Director of Schools says the district may have to scrap a planned rezoning unless funding for the new Brentwood elementary school is approved by month's end.

Director Mike Looney is scheduled to present new school zones by the end of March, but according to The Tennessean, he is now worried that the county commission will not approve funds for the school slated to open on Split Log Road in Brentwood in time.

Though the commission's education committee unanimously approved the $15 million needed for the school, the budget committee deferred a decision until May. The Williamson County Commission does not meet in April. Looney said not only will he not be able to roll out new school zones without certainty on the Brentwood school, but the opening of that school itself could be pushed from its scheduled opening of fall 2018 to the middle of the 2018-19 school year or even into the fall of 2019.
