Here are the top stories today in Franklin:

  1. Gov. Bill Lee and Commissioner David Salyers of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation announced a $19.5 million loan for Franklin to improve water infrastructure. The loan is one of four approved by the Tennessee Local Development Authority. Said Gov. Lee in a statement, "We are committed to providing dependable water infrastructure for Tennessee communities … These loans make infrastructure upgrades affordable and accessible for local governments and help to keep Tennesseans healthy." (Main Street Nashville)
  2. Despite a little rain and a slight autumn chill in the air, veterans were shown appreciation from the community in downtown Franklin Thursday. The annual Veterans Day parade was back to its Main Street route after being moved in 2020. Bands, organizations, floats, flag wavers, military vehicles, and plenty of veterans took part in the parade. Veterans were also treated to a special reception prior to the parade at the Williamson County Archives and Museum. (Williamson Herald)
  3. In 2020, the U.S. population growth rate hit its lowest level since the Great Depression. However, the population is only growing in metropolitan areas across the country, and Tennessee is no exception. The fastest-growing region in Tennessee is the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin metro area. Its population grew by 19.1% from 2010 to 2020 to 1,961,232 residents. During that same time, the state population grew by 8.5%. (Citizen Tribune)
