Bell Switch: Williamson County Schools to Hold Meetings on Changing School Start Times

Three September meetings will give parents, students and members of the community a chance to weigh in on delaying high school start times.

FRANKLIN, TN β€” Studies show that teenagers do better in school and are healthier in general when their school day begins after 8:30.

With those findings in mind, Williamson County Schools will host meetings in September of parents, school personnel, high school students and the community at-large to discuss a delay to start times for the county's 10 high schools, which generally start between 7:20 and 7:30 a.m. now.

WCS will hold three meetings:

  • Sept. 8 at Nolensville High
  • Sept. 13 at Centennial High
  • Sept. 20 at Fairview High

All three will begin at 6 p.m.

Following the meetings, the district will survey parents, high school students, school personnel and the business community in order to gauge interest in possible changes.

School personnel have been reviewing scholarly research on school start and end times and have also partnered with Hanover Research to look into this topic and see how other school districts are handling this issue.
