The Franklin Fire Department was dispatched at 1:06 PM to the three-story office building under construction on Rural Plains Circle. When Lt. Jeff Moss and the Engine 7 crew arrived minutes later the crane operator had already climbed out of the crane on his own. He refused medical treatment.

The crane fell across the road and into a parking lot, missing cars and people as it collapsed. According to Moss it appeared to have caused little to no property damage. Moss said the crane was leaking diesel fuel that the firefighters were able to quickly contain.
