FFD, Williamson EMA, Others Respond To Tractor-Trailer Diesel Fuel Spill In Franklin

Franklin, TN – The Franklin Fire Department, Williamson County Emergency Management Agency, and others responded to a diesel fuel spill this morning, after the fuel tank of a tractor-trailer was punctured while traveling on I-65 NB.

According to Franklin Fire Captain Scott Mainord, the puncture occurred just before the Goose Creek Bypass-Peytonsville Rd. exit, and was caused by roadway debris. The tractor-trailer driver immediately took the exit and pulled into the T.A. Truck Stop at 4400 Peytonsville Rd.

Firefighters and other emergency responders were dispatched to the truck stop at 7:38 AM, where the majority of the spill occurred. Firefighters were on scene for two hours working to stop and contain the leak. Mainord estimated approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel escaped from the tank.

He said a hazmat cleanup company responded to clean the area affected, which involved the I-65 ramp to the truck stop. TDEC and city stormwater officials were also notified. Mainord said containment and cleanup efforts did not affect traffic.
