Five from Franklin, Centennial Pair Part of Record-Setting Crop of Williamson County National Merit Semifinalsts

A record 50 Williamson County Schools students were recognized by prestigious scholarship program.

FRANKLIN, TN β€” Five students from Franklin High School and two from Centennial are among the record-setting 50 National Merit Semifinalists from Williamson County Schools.

Brentwood High School had the most National Merit Semifinalists in the state with 19 and Ravenwood High wasn't far behind with 17 of its own.

The district's record performances comes in a year when the score requirement on the PSAT qualifying test is higher than it has been in almost 20 years. Semifinalists are determined based on the score on the PSAT, which is typically taken during the sophomore or junior year. Of the 1.5 million who entered the program, 16,000 were named as semifinalists. Finalists are determined based on the student's broader academic record, school involvement, leadership activity and other honors. Finalists are announced in February.
