Franklin Fire Department Celebrates 2019 Award Winners Virtually
A Phoenix Award is presented to firefighters for saving the life of a patient in cardiac arrest.

Franklin, TN – The Franklin Fire Department’s 2019 Awards Ceremony was unable to take place as scheduled on March 12 due to Covid-19. Instead, the department is honoring award winners virtually. Following is a complete listing of 2019 honorees, with links to short videos, stories and more:

- Engineer of the Year - Engineer-Paramedic Dustin Anderson
- Firefighter of the Year – Firefighter Emily Nelms
- Rookie of the Year – Firefighter-Paramedic Byron Dahlstom
- Fire Administration Staff Member of the Year – Assistant Fire Marshal Jonathan Dye
- Support Employee of the Year – City of Franklin IT Department GIS Specialist I Andrew Southern

February 26, 2019 - A man contemplating suicide climbed over the railing of an I-65 overpass bridge. Firefighter-Paramedic Michael Henry, Firefighter Brad Engle, Police Lieutenant Charles Warner, Sergeant David Mullins, and Officer Jane Teeples, along with citizens Trey Reynolds, Jessica Self, Jayme Summer, and Lynnette Winters all intervened to save the man’s life. Franklin Fire and Police personnel received a Unit Citation for Valorous Conduct and the citizens received the Civilian Lifesaving Award. Learn more HERE.
A Phoenix Award is presented to firefighters for saving the life of a patient in cardiac arrest. In 2019 Franklin Firefighters saved the lives of three cardiac arrest victims.
March 25, 2019 – Captain Jose Periut, Lieutenant-Paramedic Brian Brandon, Engineers Michael Daniels and James Demastus, Firefighter-Paramedic Jason Webb, and Firefighter Nicholas Riley helped save the life of a 56-year old male patient who experienced cardiac arrest.
May 14, 2019 – Lieutenant Jonathan Gill, Firefighter-Paramedics Matthew Anderson and Terry Storey, and Firefighters Daniel Burke, David Cloud, and Don Crouch helped save the life of a 66-year old female patient who experienced cardiac arrest.
October 26, 2019 – Assistant Fire Chief Glenn Johnson, Assistant Fire Marshal Curt Edelmann, Captains Thomas Chaffin and Greg Wild, Fire Inspector-Paramedic Ryan Naylor, Lieutenant Andrew Ivey, Engineer-Paramedic Joseph Burwell, Engineers Doug Bowman, William E. Proctor, Jeremiah Rogers, and Paul Seltz, Firefighter-Paramedics Byron Dahlstrom, Alan Fulwood, and Daniel White, and Firefighters Daniel McDow and Jayce Pickle helped to save the life of Franklin Police Volunteer Tim Wait. March 26, 2019 – Firefighter-Paramedic Aaron Sherwood and Firefighter Daniel Burke saved the life of a choking patient.
May 4, 2019 – Mayor Ken Moore and Assistant Fire Chief Glenn Johnson saved the life of a choking patient. Learn more HERE.

August 31 - September 5, 2019 – Battalion Chief Michael Pardue, Captain Thomas Chaffin, and Firefighters Daniel Burke, Austin Cooper and Rob Thomas deployed with Tennessee Task Force 2 as Urban Search and Rescue Specialists.
September 2 - 5, 2019 – Battalion Chief Jonathan Jenkins, Captain Jose Periut, and Firefighters Luke Greenwell and Dustin Sinclair deployed with the Williamson County Swiftwater Rescue Team. Learn more HERE.
Award of Appreciation – Atmos Energy Distribution Operator Timothy Langston
Fire Chief Rocky Garzarek said, “The Franklin Fire Department is honored to present an Award of Appreciation to our friend and partner in emergency response, Atmos Energy Corporation’s Timothy Langston.
