🌱 March To Freedom Statue Sets National Example + Spooky Stories

Here's the latest edition of the Franklin Daily! This is your source for all things going on in town.

Welcome back, Franklin! Here's everything you need to know to get this Monday started off right. Here's what's going on in town today.

First, today's weather:

Not as warm with a t-storm. High: 70 Low: 46.

Here are the top stories today in Franklin:

  1. Franklin is setting an example for other cities around the country that are grappling with the presence of public monuments honoring Confederate leaders. The city has made national headlines for Saturday's unveiling of the "March to Freedom" statue, which commemorates the Black enslaved men who enlisted in the United States Colored Troops, a segregated part of the Union Army during the Civil War. Instead of taking down "Chip," a controversial Confederal soldier monument across from the historic Franklin courthouse, a local business leader suggested an additional statue to tell a fuller story of the Civil War — one that included the horrors of slavery and the Black people who fought to end it. 2. Do you love telling and sharing scary stories? Is Halloween your favorite holiday? The Williamson County Public Library wants to hear from you! There's still time to submit your digital content, including written stories, audio recordings, and video recordings, to the Spooky Stories of Williamson County collection. Local haunts and ghosts are especially welcome! (Williamson County Public Library)
  3. From one Franklin to another — Franklin, Tennessee-based branding firm Chandler Thinks has been hired by the St. Mary Parish Tourist Commission in Franklin, Louisiana, to help them reevaluate its tourism efforts. Chandler Thinks is slated to execute a $49,000 benchmark report to help the Parish determine what's working, what isn't, and how it can lure tourists to the Cajun Coast. (IberiaNet)
