Here are the top stories in Franklin today:

  1. The City of Franklin's super-duper leaf collection truck will be in the Orange Zone this week, beginning today (Nov. 22) through Wednesday, Nov. 24. 2. Yesterday, the City of Franklin held a "Last Ride" around the city for retired Franklin Fire Battalion Chief Andrew "Gentry" Fox, who passed away on Nov. 15 at age 70. Chief Fox's casket was driven through the streets of the city on Franklin Fire Engine 2 along a route that included Mack Hatcher Memorial Parkway, Murfreesboro Road, and Columbia Avenue, before returning to Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. The Williamson County Rescue Squad and the Franklin Police Department also joined the procession. Funeral services are planned for this afternoon at Williamson Memorial. (City of Franklin)
  3. Freedom Middle School students spread gratitude on Friday as part of Franklin Special School District's BE NICE initiative. The school partnered with the Ray of Light Foundation, a charitable nonprofit created in honor of former FMS student Raymond Cruz, to coordinate activities focused on giving, gratitude, and graciousness. Students wrote gratitude notes to individual faculty and staff members, such as custodians, bus drivers, and office and cafeteria workers, on specially made cards designed by the school's art department. 4. Franklin Elementary has joined the Ten Thousand Flowers Project, a national collaborative art project that spans 16 states so far. Last week, kindergarten through fourth-grade students worked on a giant paint-by-numbers mural designed and prepared by Tim Gibson, the artist behind the project, and each left their personal mark on the mural. The ultimate goal of the Ten Thousand Flowers Project is to create a painted garden of 10,000 flowers. (Press Release Desk)
