For the past 15 years, the Family Safety House has been a Franklin tradition, serving as a mobile classroom where firefighters teach children fire safety and survival skills each fall. The specially-designed trailer allows students to experience a simulated fire in a home-like setting so they know what to do if a real one breaks out.

Franklin Fire and Life Safety Educator Jamie Melton said, “While we’re disappointed we won’t be able to present the Family Safety House program in person this year, we encourage students and families to take a look at our virtual option.” She said the virtual tour features five video lessons, which were filmed at Liberty Elementary and Winstead Elementary in 2017. She said, “The lessons are geared toward six and seven year old children, but they are good safety reminders for the entire family.”
