Williamson Is The Country's Seventh-Wealthiest County: Census Bureau

Williamson County's median income is 37 percent higher than Tennessee's second wealthiest county.

FRANKLIN, TN — Williamson County is once again the wealthiest county in Tennessee and among the wealthiest in the nation, according to data released by the United States Census Bureau. The county's median income of $104,367 is the seventh-highest in the country and its poverty rate of 5 percent is tied for the 10th-lowest in the country.

Williamson County's high ranking — it's the third wealthiest county outside of the Washington, D.C. Metro area — was not indicative of Tennessee as a whole, which ranked 43rd with a median income of $47,243. In short, the median Williamson County household is 120 percent wealthier than the median Tennessee household. Williamson County is far wealthier than any of the state's other 94 counties. The second wealthiest county, Wilson, had a median income of $65,372 in 2015, nearly $39,000 lower than Williamson.

Tennessee's state-wide poverty rate is 16.7 percent, with the highest rate in West Tennessee's Lake County at 43.1 percent. The state's lowest median income was in Hancock County in the northeast part of the state.
