Williamson County Wants Feedback on Proposed School Calendars
Three proposed WCS calendars differ on break lengths and start days; one even starts after Labor Day.

FRANKLIN, TN β Long for the time when school didn't start until after Labor Day? That nostalgia would be the reality under one calendar proposal being considered by Williamson County Schools.
The district is sending out surveys to parents and employees Nov. 1 with three proposed school calendar options for the 2017-18 school year.
The first two choices are essentially a choice of a longer fall break with an earlier start date, or an extra week of summer and a shorter fall break. Option A sends students back August 11 with a October 13-16 fall break, while Option B begins August 4 but offers an October 9-13 fall break. Under the first choice, students get out for Christmas December 20; under Option B, the break begins a day earlier. Both choices have a March 26-30 spring break. The last day of school under A would be May 24 and under B May 23.

Option C, however, is more radical. Students would return for a half day the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 5. Fall break would run October 20-23 and Thanksgiving break would begin on the Wednesday before the holiday β November 22; under the other two choices, students would get the full week of Thanksgiving off. Students would have a half-day on December 22 ahead of the Christmas break and would return January 8. Spring break would come a week later than the other plans, running March 30 to April 6. And the last day of school would come June 13.
Parents and employees will have until November 3 to complete the survey and the school board will learn the results at a November 10 work session before voting November 21.
