βThis misdemeanor charge apparently stems from an incident which took place Tuesday at Franklin High School while he and others were assisting a student in crisis,β Birdsong wrote in a statement.
βThere were multiple witnesses on hand who dispute this accusation of simple assault, and we believe this charge is without merit and will not stand.β

In a statement of its own, Franklin Police said Looney tried to force a student out of the school and into his car.
βYesterday, Franklin Police Officers and paramedics were dispatched to Franklin High School for a reported psychological emergency. While working with the student, the studentβs mother, and school staff to transport the student to the hospital, Dr. Mike Looney, Williamson County Schools Superintendent, abruptly entered the conference room, grabbed the student by her arm, and forced her out of the school and to his vehicle,β FPD said in a statement. βOfficers intervened and had on-scene paramedics transport the student to the emergency room for evaluation.
βToday, those officers consulted with the Williamson County Magistrate, who issued an arrest warrant, charging Dr. Looney with Assault.β
This is a developing story.
