Belmont Student Arrested for Raping Classmate
Police say the suspect in the off-campus rape admitted to the crime in a taped phone call.
NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Police arrested a 21-year-old Belmont student, charging him with the New Year's Day rape of a classmate in a house near campus.
The victim said she was at a friend's house in the 1600 block of Primrose Avenue when she began arguing with Carlos Reyes, 21. She then went to Reyes bed alone and fell asleep and said she woke up when Reyes began having sex with her, according to an affidavit.
The woman agreed to call Reyes and have that call recorded. According to investigator, during that phone call, Reyes said "my drunk ass got the best of me" and that he had sex with the woman without consent. He also said he "feels terrible about it and that he doesn't have an explanation," according to the affidavit.

Reyes is free on $15,000 bond and is set for a May court date.
