Emptied Wine Box, Airplane Bottles Found in Car After Multiple West Nashville Wrecks

A driver faces DUI and aggravated assault charges after several wrecks and being unable to perform field sobriety checks.

NASHVILLE, TN — A woman faces drunken driving and assault with a deadly weapon charges after West Nashville wrecks and a complicated arrest that included an empty box of wine, airplane bottles and a driver unable to stand long enough to perform sobriety tests.

Metro Police were called to the intersection of Highway 100 and Old Hickory Boulevard for a hit-and-run report Friday afternoon involving a silver Nissan Altima. The Altima was driving east towards the city with its hood pushed up far enough to block the windshield, forcing the driver, Michelle Bixler, 41, of Ashland City, to stick her head out the driver's side window to see, according to police.

Police then received a report of another wreck involving the same car at the intersection of Harding Place and Harding Pike, where Bixler was allegedly repeatedly ramming an SUV in an attempt to flee, all while drinking from a box of wine.

Police were able to apprehend Bixler, who said she had no recollection of what happened nor where she was. She told officers she had not been drinking. Investigators found the box of wine "significantly less than full" and two empty airplane bottle of liquor in the door of the car.

Bixler agreed to field sobriety checks, but was incapable of standing up, according to her arrest warrant. She then agreed to a blood draw, but while at the hospital, she swayed to and fro, fell asleep and made grunting noises. She also fell over and upset the nurse's tray.

Bixler is charged with DUI, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of the open container law.
