Fatal Wrong Way Crash Closes I-440, Suspect Arrested

Police arrested a driver accused of driving east on I-440 West and killing another person.

NASHVILLE, TN — A man died after a wrong-way crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 440.

Guillermo Vera, 19, was driving a pick-up truck east in the westbound lanes, according to police, hitting an SUV that was entering the road from I-65 around 1:30 a.m. The driver of the SUV, John Lattimer, 25, of Pickerington, Ohio, was pronounced dead on the scene. Vera called police Sunday and said he had been involved in the crash. During a subsequent interview with detectives, he admitted he had been drinking prior to the wreck, according to police.

Vera is charged with homicide by intoxication, leaving the scene of a fatal crash and failure to render aid.
