Music City Tar: 12South's 'I Believe In Nashville' Mural Vandalized

Some time overnight, vandals poured tar on to the popular Instagram spot.

NASHVILLE, TN — It's served as the backdrop for countless selfies, bachelorette party group shots and launched a thousand t-shirts, window stickers and at least five other copies around town, but apparently, not everyone is a fan of the unofficial symbol of Nashville's "It City" era.

Some time overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, apparently vandals poured tar over the nearly five-year-old "I Believe In Nashville" mural on 12th Avenue South.

Andy Howell with building owner C.A. Howell & Co. told the Nashville Scene that he filed a police report about the vandalism after he was alerted around 6 a.m. Wednesday. By the time Patch arrived four hours later, work was underway to scrape the tar from the building. Howell told the Scene there's a party to celebrate the mural's fifth anniversary planned for March 25 and that the artist, Adrien Saporiti, may have to do a little touch-up work before then.

As the Scene notes, the alignment of the stars on the mural is actually incorrect. See a side by side of the mural and the correct alignment below:
