Mysterious Brush Fire Breaks Out At Radnor Lake
A fire quickly burned two-thirds of an acre at one of Nashville's most popular outdoor spots.
OAK HILL, TN — A mysterious brush fire quickly burned two-thirds of an acre at Radnor Lake State Natural Area Wednesday.
First reported shortly after 5:30 p.m., the fire was on Daniel Ridge on the Franklin Road side of the park. Because the fire was high on the ridge, getting water to the flames was difficult, but crews were able to contain the fire by creating a boundary. As Wednesday night's cold front bushed through, bringing shifty high winds, crews had to dodge falling limbs, as well.
The fire was contained but still smoldering, helped in part by an early growth of moisture-retaining chickweed, according to the Department of Forestry. Thursday, the department was hoping to bury some of the dead leaves on the ridge to prevent the fire from re-igniting.
