Police: Man Kills Himself After Fleeing Belle Meade Traffic Stop

BELLE MEADE, TN — A man stopped on suspicion of drunken driving committed suicide in his car, according to Belle Meade Police.

Officers stopped the man, who was not identified, believing he may have been driving under the influence. As they approached his car, he punched the gas and sped away.

Officers found the car a short time later crashed into a tree and the man inside with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The driver is not from the area, police said.
