Supposed West Nashville Sighting Of Elizabeth Thomas Unfounded: Police

A man said he may have shared an elevator with missing Maury County teen Elizabeth Thomas, but police refuted the sighting.

NASHVILLE, TN — The Maury County Sheriff's Department and Metro Nashville Police said a reported sighting of missing Culleoka teenager Elizabeth Thomas in West Nashville Tuesday was unfounded.

A man who said he was a Spokane, Wash. police officer staying at the Best Western at White Bridge Road and Obrien Avenue called the Maury County Sheriff's Office around 7:30 Tuesday night and said he may have shared an elevator with Thomas, a 15-year-old Culleoka Unit School student who is believed to have been abducted by her former teacher Tad Cummins, 50, last month.

The man also said he saw a silver Nissan Rogue — the car investigators believe Cummins is driving — in the parking lot, though the license plate did not match Cummins'.

Metro police responded to the hotel and determined it was not Thomas the man saw.

Since her disappearance March 13, there only confirmed sighting of Thomas and Cummins was at an Oklahoma City Walmart March 15. This despite a multi-state manhunt for Cummins — who is charged with aggravated kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor — and more than 1,300 tips.

Thomas is white with blonde hair and hazel eyes, and is 5 feet tall and 120 pounds. The surveillance footage from Oklahoma City hinted that her hair may now be red. Cummins is a 6-foot white male with brown hair and brown eyes, weighing 200 pounds. The Oklahoma photos indicate he has darkened his hair and beard. He is believed to be armed with two handguns.
