2. 31st annual iris Festival ready to bloom May 16-17 in downtown Greeneville (greenevillesun.com) — Downtown Greeneville will be packed this weekend as the 31st annual Iris Festival takes over College, Depot, and Academy streets with more than 100 vendors, live music, and food. Residents can also catch the Sundown on Depot Car Show, Downtown Brewfest, and pre-festival events, plus grab this year’s Iris Festival T-shirts and garden flags around town.

3. Greeneville City Schools Board of Education approves budget, other items (greenevillesun.com) — Greeneville City Schools have approved their 2026-27 general purpose budget, closing a previous deficit and sending the plan on to Greeneville City Council for final consideration. Board members also advanced several policy updates and funded new technology, including a major server upgrade and a cell-signal booster for Greeneville Career & Technical Academy. The next board meeting is set for June 23 downtown.

4. National Peace Officers Memorial Day Marked At County Courthouse (wgrv.com) — Local leaders gathered Tuesday on the Greene County Courthouse steps to honor fallen peace officers and thank Greeneville-area law enforcement for their daily sacrifices. Speakers including Greeneville Mayor Cal Doty and county officials reflected on officers lost nationwide, the impact of policing in a small community, and the support families provide, closing with wreaths, a three-volley salute, and “Taps.”

5. Question: How Do You Remove A Bear From A Power Pole – Answer: Very Carefully (wgrv.com) — Over the weekend, Greeneville Energy Authority crews teamed up with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officers to safely rescue a black bear cub that had climbed a GEA light pole along the Newport Highway. Using a cage and plenty of caution, workers removed the cub without injuries and returned it to TWRA care. GEA says it was far from a typical work order, but all in a day’s service to the community.
