Greeneville City Council approves budget, four-cent property tax increase on first reading (wjhl.com) — Greeneville’s city council has tentatively approved the 2026–27 budget, including a four-cent property tax increase on first reading, in a 3–1 vote. Major spending boosts city schools, employee pay, the George Clem facility, and debt service, while one alderman urges finding cuts instead of raising taxes. A final vote is set for June 16.

Lawmakers Announce $72,000 Of Arts Commission Grants In Greene County (wgrv.com) — Several Greene County arts organizations, including Greeneville’s Niswonger Performing Arts Center and the George Clem Multicultural Alliance, have been awarded a combined $72,000 in Tennessee Arts Commission grants for the 2026–27 fiscal year. Local lawmakers say the funding will support tourism, youth opportunities, and cultural programs that benefit Greeneville and surrounding communities. Additional arts grants will be awarded across Tennessee throughout the year.

Police: Fake Movie Cash Used in Greeneville Pokémon Card Scam (wivk.com) — Greeneville police are investigating after a Facebook Marketplace deal for collectible Pokémon cards at the Greene County YMCA ended with the seller receiving fake “movie money” instead of real cash. Officers have identified a suspect and are reviewing surveillance footage, while reminding residents to be cautious and carefully inspect bills when meeting strangers for online sales.

Tipton elected to Utrust Board of Trustees (greenevillesun.com) — A familiar Greene County education leader is taking on a new statewide role, as school board chairman Rick Tipton joins the Utrust Board of Trustees starting July 1. Tipton, who previously worked three decades at the federal court in Greeneville, will represent East Tennessee school systems while continuing to champion local students and schools.
