• Roger Williams Park Zoo elephants bound for Tennessee retirement sanctuary (newportri.com) — An internationally known elephant sanctuary based on 3,060 acres in Hohenwald will become the retirement home for three aging African elephants from Roger Williams Park Zoo in 2027. The move keeps Alice, Ginny, and Kate together in a larger social group, with lifetime care in Hohenwald’s expansive, non-public natural habitat that emphasizes elephant welfare, conservation, and remote viewing via online cameras. 
• Susan Elaine Chilton (rutherfordsource.com) — A woman born in Hohenwald, Susan McCord Chilton, has passed away at age 71 after a life that took her from Centerville and Lewisburg to Columbia, South Carolina. Family and friends can gather for visitation and funeral services on July 8 at London Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with burial to follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.
