Driver Careens Into Smyrna Yard, Leaves Behind Odd Menagerie of Items

Rutherford County deputies are hunting for a hit-and-run driver who abandoned her empty purse, a Tarantino film and an inflated latex glove.

SMYRNA, TN — A woman who decided a straight line was the best way to navigate a dangerous curve fled after careening through several Smyrna yards, abandoning an SUV with the keys inside and engine running. But the trio of items she left behind are a headscratching hodgepodge that would baffle even Sherlock Holmes.

At the infamous curve of Almaville Road near Drew Street, an SUV tore through yards, eventually crashing into the garden of Mary Phelps. The woman driving the SUV hopped out of her car and into another SUV, leaving the engine running even as she made her escape.

A neighbor of Phelps', Brittany Hudson, told WKRN Rutherford County Sheriff's deputies searched the SUV for clues to the identity of the driver but what they discovered raised only more questions: an empty purse, a copy of director Quentin Tarantino's 2012 Western "Django Unchained" and an inflated latex glove.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's office have determined the identity of the driver — it's unclear if the purse, film and glove led to the discovery — and are working to find her. Charges are pending against the woman, who authorities have not named.
