Off-Duty Deputy's Rifle Stolen From Car
Reward offered for recovery of semi-automatic purloined from trunk of off-duty sheriff's deputy's patrol car

A semi-automatic rifle was stolen from the marked patrol car of an off-duty Rutherford County sheriff's deputy outside of his home on Old Jefferson Pike near Smyrna.
Deputy Scott Parker reported he locked the rifle in his vehicle for safe-keeping while his home, which is for sale, was being shown to potential buyers over the weekend. He discovered it was missing Sunday and reported it to the Sheriff's Department.
The department said it is investigating whether proper weapon storage policies were followed.

βQualified deputies are issued the rifles to protect the citizens of our county, especially during potentially dangerous situations that could affect the safety of residents and law enforcement officers,β department spokesperson Lisa Marchesoni said.
The department alerted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft. People who have information may call the ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS or Detective Steve Kohler at 615-904-3046.

In addition, Rutherford County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1,000 for the arrest and prosecution of the suspect. People may call Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
