La Vergne, Smyrna Issue Burn Bans

As drought conditions persist in Rutherford County, La Vergne bans burning.

LA VERGNE, TN — With drought conditions persisting in Rutherford County, the city of La Vergne and town of Smyrna have issued burn bans.

"This time of the year is especially dry and because of the lack of forecast precipitation in the near future, safe burning is not feasible," the La Vergne Fire Department said in a statement.

Outdoor open burning includes residential and construction open burning for the purpose of disposing of vegetation. Recreational fires for the purposes of pleasure, burn pits, camp fire or other similar purposes don’t require a permit and will be allowed.

The burn bans will continue until further notice. Earlier Tuesday, both the City of Murfreesboro and the unincorporated parts of Rutherford County were put under a burn ban as well.
