La Vergne Library Set For Upgrades

Renovations to city's public library are the first major improvements since its 2002 opening.

LA VERGNE, TN — For the first time since moving to its current location 14 years ago, the La Vergne Public Library will be getting major renovations.

Over the next few months, new carpet will be installed in the children’s story room and the entire 20,000 square-foot building will get a fresh coat of paint. Remaining carpets will be professionally cleaned and all tiled floors stripped and waxed. City officials approved the $35,000 upgrades in this year’s city budget.

"The carpeting in the story time room will be installed in mid-August, followed by carpet cleaning," librarian Donna Bebout said in a press release.

The library may have to close for a couple of days for painting, but there is no date for that yet. Officials will announce any closing dates well in advance.

The roof of the library was repaired after strong storms in June. Those repairs were largely covered by insurance.

La Vergne's public library is independent of Rutherford County's Linebaugh Library System, relying on the city for funding, though it is also able to retain its own fines and fees for its general fund, rather than turning them over to the county.
