La Vergne Police Lauded for DUI Enforcement Efforts
The La Vergne Police Department have been awarded the state's 2016 DUI Enforcement Award.

LA VERGNE, TN — The La Vergne Police Department's DUI enforcement efforts have been recognized by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office. In November, La Vergne officers arrested 244 people for driving under the influence, an increase of 41.1 percent from the same month in 2015. For the year, the department has increased DUI arrests by separate cause: alcohol by 38.5 percent, drugs by 78.8 percent and both alcohol and drugs combined by 32.3 percent. Because of these increases, the department received THSO's DUI Enforcement Award for 2016.
“I am very proud of the members of the La Vergne Police Department, and for their selection as the Law Enforcement Agency in Middle Tennessee for this honor and recognition. As a result of their increased and enhanced training, we are making more arrests for DUI as a result of drugs other than ethyl alcohol, as well as ethyl alcohol combined with other drugs. Our Patrol Officers, Patrol Supervisors, and Patrol Commanders work very hard to keep our community as safe as possible, and this certainly includes drivers who choose to drink and/or take drugs and operate a motor vehicle our streets and highways,” LPD chief Mike Walker said in a statement.
