Rutherford County Unemployment Rate Up in December

NASHVILLE, TN — The unemployment rate in Rutherford County was 3.7 percent in December, up 0.1 percent from the November number, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The jobless rate rose in all of Tennessee's 95 counties in December.

That gives Rutherford County the third-lowest unemployment rate in the state once again, trailing just neighboring Williamson (3.5 percent) and Davidson (3.6). Of the 10 lowest county numbers, eight were in Middle Tennessee.

In the last year, the Rutherford County jobless number has dropped 0.3 percent.

The city-level rate in both La Vergne and Smyrna was 3.8 percent, a 0.2 percent rise in La Vergne and a 0.3 percent increase in Smyrna.

The state rate, reported last week, is 4.9 percent, up 0.1 percent from November's adjusted figure.
