Rutherford County Unemployment Rate Falls Sharply In April

The jobless rate fell in all of Tennessee's 95 counties in April and was down to 2.9 percent in Rutherford County.

NASHVILLE, TN — The unemployment rate in Rutherford County was 2.9 percent in April, down sharply — 0.6 percent — from the March number, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The jobless rate fell in all of Tennessee's 95 counties in April.

That gives Rutherford County the third-lowest unemployment rate in the state once again, trailing just neighboring Williamson (2.6 percent) and Davidson (2.7). In the last year, the Rutherford County jobless number has fallen 0.4 percent.

The city-level rate in La Vergne was 3.1 percent, down 0.7 from March, and in Smyrna 2.6 percent, down 0.6.

The state rate, reported last week, is 4.7 percent, down 0.4 percent from February's adjusted figure.
