Rutherford County Unemployment Up, Still Among State's Lowest

As it did it most of Tennessee's counties, the unemployment rate crept up in Rutherford County in November, but remains very low.

NASHVILLE, TN — Rutherford County's unemployment rate rose to 2.6 percent in November, up 0.3 percent from October, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The unemployment rate rose in 90 counties, fell in two and was unchanged in three others, but is still below 5 percent in 87 of the state's 95 counties.

Rutherford County's rate is tied for third-lowest in the state with Cheatham County; neighboring Davidson and Williamson counties have the state's lowest jobless number at 2.5 percent. Of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, eight were in Middle Tennessee.

In Smyrna, the city-level unemployment rate is estimated at 2.5 percent, up 0.2 percent from October, but the second-lowest figure among Tennessee cities of 25,000 people or more. In neighboring La Vergne, that figure is 2.8 percent, up 0.3 from October.

Rutherford County's unemployment rate has dropped 1.1 percent since November 2016.

The state rate, reported last week, is 3.1 percent, up 0.1 percent from October's adjusted figure.
