Smyrna Policeman Hailed As Hero After Helping Family Escape House Fire
A Smyrna family — and their pets — are safe after some quick thinking and glass-breaking from a Smyrna policeman

SMYRNA, TN — A Smyrna police officer is being heaped with praise and being credited with saving a family during a Sunday night house fire.
WKRN reports that in the wee hours of Sunday morning, Kim Tompkins saw police lights outside of her Smyrna home. Soon, she heard yelling from Smyrna officer Tracy Moss, urging her to get out of the home, which had caught fire.
Moss was just down the road when a call came out. When he arrived at Tompkins' home, he saw 15-foot flames coming out of the roof.

“He’s screaming, get out get out! And I’m like, ‘I don’t have any clothes!’” Tompkins told WKRN.

Tompkins, her son, two dogs and a cat all escaped unharmed. The fire was determined to have been caused by a hair dryer left plugged in. Tompkins said she expects to be back in the home within four months.
