Watch Mayors Discuss Future Of Solid Waste After Mt. Trashmore
Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess, Murfreesboro mayor Shane McFarland and former State Rep. John Hood talk life after the landfill.
MURFREESBORO, TN — As Rutherford County's solid-waste advisory committee continues its work to examine life after the closure of the Middle Point Landfill — better known as Mt. Trashmore — county mayor Ernest Burgess and Murfreesboro mayor Shane McFarland appeared on former State Rep. John Hood's "Murfreesboro Storytellers" program.
Middle Point is scheduled for closure in eight years — or sooner. The closure has implications not only for Rutherford County — taxpayers save millions by having trash disposed there and the county coffers are enriched by tipping fees from elsewhere — but for people across Middle Tennessee, as 19 counties take their trash to the facility.
