A Wider Old Nashville Highway?
La Vergne's mayor says the days of a two-lane Old Nashville Highway are coming to an end.

LA VERGNE, TN — La Vergne is making plans to widen Old Nashville Highway, the city's mayor tells the Daily News Journal.
Mayor Dennis Waldron told the newspaper the city is starting the planning process in an effort to secure state funding to widen the road from two lanes. (For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Middle Tennessee Patch morning newsletter.)
We need to control traffic congestion on Old Nashville Highway," Waldron said in a statement emailed to the paper. "We hope by starting the planning process this will put us in line for potential state funding. We want to be proactive to secure this project for the citizens of La Vergne."

La Vergne's city council committed $226,207 — which includes a transfer of $126,207 from the city's general fund — in the budget which takes effect July 1 for design, engineering and rights-of-way procurement.
A study will also determine if Old Nashville Highway should be three or five lanes, but Waldron told the paper it will have sidewalks regardless and that the sewer extension will be concurrent with the road project.
