Wilson County Man Arrested For Smyrna Murder

The death of a man on Smyrna's One Mile Lane has been ruled a homicide.

SMYRNA, TN — A Wilson County man is charged with the murder of a man in Smyrna Friday.

James Burney Whitehead, 49, was found on the verge of death by a friend 2 p.m. Friday at his home on One Mile Lane in Smyrna and died two hours later.

Sunday, David Michael Oeser, 47 of Lebanon, was arrested ad charged with homicide.

“I can’t thank the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office enough for their tremendous assistance in locating Whitehead,” Rutherford County Sheriff Michael Fitzhugh said. “Our patrol officers and detectives worked together in their usual efficient manner for a quick resolution to this crime.”

Whitehead's autopsy was scheduled for Monday. Oeser is being held on a $1 million bond in Murfreesboro.
