• North Thompson Lane widening project set to begin this fall in Murfreesboro (newschannel5.com) — North Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro is set for a massive TDOT widening project this fall, expanding 4.3 miles to five lanes and adding safety upgrades through 2030. Expect years of lane closures, greenway and canoe ramp shutdowns, and changing traffic patterns as crews work to ease congestion for growing neighborhoods, schools, and businesses.
   

• United Way packs more than 70,000 school supplies to South Central Tennessee students (wsmv.com) — Families in Murfreesboro and across Rutherford County will soon receive nearly 1,000 free backpacks as part of United Way of South Central Tennessee’s “Stuff the Bus” school-supply drive. • Appeals Court Upholds Sentence in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash that Killed MTSU Student (wgnsradio.com) — A state appeals court has upheld a 12-year sentence for Jonathan Andrew Berretta, whose drunk driving wrong-way crash killed MTSU student and Riverdale High alum Katie Leigh Bauer, a member of New Vision Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. Judges rejected all 13 issues he raised, including challenges to blood evidence and consecutive sentencing, leaving his convictions and prison term intact.
