11 Tennessee Companies Make Fortune 500 List For 2017

Eleven Tennessee headquartered companies earned coveted spots on Fortune Magazine's annual Fortune 500 list. The 500 companies represent two-thirds of the United States GDP with $12 trillion in revenues.

Companies are ranked by total revenues, and topping the list nationally is Walmart, followed by Berkshire Hathaway and Apple. Walmart is also the biggest employer on the list with 2.3 million employees, while Apple is the most profitable company on the list. Fifteen companies dropped off the list and there were 20 newcomers, notably Elon Musk’s electric car company, Tesla. Other than clearing the bar of at least $5.1 billion in annual revenue, Fortune explains how newcomers make it on the list.

The 2017 list also includes 32 female CEOs, the highest number of female CEOs to ever make the list.
