16-Year-Old Charged With Criminal Homicide For Fatal Shooting On Charles Court

Homicide Unit detectives tonight are charging I’yendaye Byrd, 16, with criminal homicide for today’s 2:10 p.m. fatal shooting of Demarius Scales, 39, outside 105 Charles Court.

The investigation being led by Detective Phil Klarer shows that Byrd was involved in an argument with a girl that turned physical when Scales came out to intervene. Byrd and Scales had words, during which Byrd pulled a gun. Scales went into his residence and retrieved a pistol. Shots were fired and Scales was killed.
Byrd was taken into custody by North Precinct officers. His gun, which was reported stolen from Las Vegas, was recovered.
