Here are the top three stories in Nashville today:

  1. The CEO of Public Education Needs Community Involvement & Leadership (PENCIL), a nonprofit that "builds strategic partnerships between community groups and the needs of Metro Nashville Public Schools," has announced she will step down at the end of this school year after an eight-year tenure. Angie Adams said she's proud of tripling the size of the organization's board, which strengthened business connections and stabilized finances. Adams also grew the organization's program that provides classroom supplies to teachers from $350,000 to over $3 million annually. (Nashville Business Journal - Subscription)
  2. A Nashville mother is living a "nightmare," as there have been no leads for over a month in the hit-and-run death of her daughter, 26-year-old Kimberly Benezue. Benezue was killed on Feb. 4 when her vehicle was hit by the driver of a stolen 2020 Dodge Charger. Metro police decided not to pursue the vehicle, despite one officer reportedly witnessing the driver performing donuts. Benezue's mother, Angela Hudson, pleaded for the public to help her find the people responsible. "I'm not going to stop until I do," she said. (WKRN News 2)
  3. A group of five Nashville children, ranging in age from 5 to 10 years old, were hit by a vehicle that fled the scene on Sunday evening in the Edgehill neighborhood. "She told us to walk, and then when we got to the middle of her car, she ran us over," 10-year-old Halo Wigfall said, adding that the driver and passenger laughed at them before taking off. Two of the children were hospitalized, but all are expected to recover. Police are still looking for the driver. (News Channel 5 Nashville)
