1. Hundreds of self-driving cars coming to Nashville with new Waymo, Lyft facility (wsmv.com) — A new 80,000-square-foot Waymo and Lyft depot near Nashville's airport will soon manage and charge hundreds of self-driving, all-electric cars, bringing more than 70 new full-time jobs this year and potentially hundreds more. The around-the-clock facility will support expanded autonomous ride service across the city, promising shorter wait times and new career paths for former Lyft drivers transitioning into maintenance and operations roles.
2. Metro Nashville continues to investigate data center impacts (wkrn.com) — Metro Nashville is continuing its deep dive into how large data centers affect local infrastructure, the environment, the economy, and nearby neighborhoods, with preliminary findings expected in a few weeks. Mayor Freddie O'Connell's executive order and a temporary moratorium on new data centers run through year's end as the city crafts one of the country's strongest regulatory frameworks for future projects.
3. Tennessee exonerees mark International Wrongful Conviction Day with billboard display in Nashville (newschannel5.com) — Exonerees from across Tennessee gathered at the Nashville Sign on Broadway to mark International Wrongful Conviction Day with a powerful digital billboard featuring their faces and stories. For Nashville residents, it's a reminder that wrongful convictions and criminal justice reform are very real local issues, with groups like the Tennessee Innocence Project working in your own backyard.
4. Southwest launches new nonstop flights from Nashville to Reno-Tahoe for winter escapes (fox17.com) — Nashville travelers now have a new nonstop Southwest route to Reno-Tahoe International Airport, which launched Oct. 1 and runs four days a week. As the only nonstop option from Nashville to the Reno–Lake Tahoe area, it makes ski trips and mountain getaways easier, with Rapid Rewards cardholders able to check ski gear as their free checked bag if it meets size rules.
