Charles Sykes Sought For Questioning In Last Week's Murder Of His Stepfather, James Springer

The Nashville resident's body was found on the side of West Hamilton Road near Drakes Branch Road.

Homicide Unit detectives investigating last week’s murder of James Springer, 60, are asking for the community’s assistance in locating Springer’s stepson, Charles Edward Sykes, who was seen with the victim on the night of February 17th as he traveled from his Saunders Avenue home to a sandwich shop on W. Trinity Lane.

Springer made it to the sandwich shop, but did not return home. He was found fatally shot the following morning on the side of West Hamilton Road near Drakes Branch Road by a resident walking in the area. Springer’s 2017 blue Nissan Rogue was missing until Sunday, when it was found burned and mostly unrecognizable in an alley off Scovel Street in North Nashville.

Charles Sykes, 42, is presently being sought only for questioning. Efforts to locate him over the past several days have been unsuccessful. Anyone seeing Sykes or knowing his whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
