More than 172,000 people voted early in Metro, but turnout lagged 2008.

NASHVILLE, TN — More than 172,000 people cast early votes in Davidson County this year, a more than 10 percent jump from the last presidential election year in 2012.
The Davidson County Election Commission said 172,159 people chose to take advantage of the early-voting period, a 10.7 percent increase from 2012, but 9.7 percent lower than the record-setting 2008 election when more than 190,000 people voted early.
More than half — 50.74 percent to be exact — of what the commission considers active voters cast early ballots and more than 42 percent of all voters. On Thursday, the last day of early voting, 18,053 people showed up to pull the lever (or push the button).
