Davidson County Unemployment Drops To 2.1 Percent

The unemployment rate fell in 94 of Tennessee's 95 counties in May, with Davidson County's down 0.6 percent.

NASHVILLE, TN — Davidson County's unemployment rate fell 0.6 percent in May to 2.1 percent, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The unemployment rate dropped in 94 of Tennessee's 95 counties last month.

Davidson County's rate is better than every other county in the state, save Williamson County, where the rate is 2 percent. Of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, nine were in Middle Tennessee. Twenty-one counties had unemployment rates below 3 percent in May, according to the labor department.

Davidson County is tops among the state's four largest metros, besting Knoxville's Knox County (2.5 percent), Chattanooga's Hamilton County (2.9 percent) and Memphis' Shelby County (3.5 percent).

Davidson County's unemployment rate has dropped 1.1 percent since May 2016.

The state rate, reported last week, is 4 percent, down 0.7 percent from April's adjusted figure.
