Fugitive Wanted For Questioning In Overnight Fatal Shooting Of Woman In South Nashville

Homicide Unit detectives are seeking Antwan Churchwell, 28, for questioning in connection with this morning’s fatal shooting of Mayte Aguirre, 24, inside a car on Glenrose Avenue.

The investigation began when Aguirre was dropped off at Southern Hills Medical Center at 2:10 a.m. by two men in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Am. She had received a gunshot wound to her back. The men fled in the car after dropping off Aguirre.

Investigation today by Homicide Detective Russ Thompson and a TITAN (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) group from the Specialized Investigations Division revealed that Aguirre was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car when she was shot by someone else inside the vehicle. Churchwell is believed to have been present. In addition to being sought for questioning in this case, Churchwell is wanted on multiple outstanding warrants charging him with aggravated assault, domestic assault, theft, and violation of probation. The Pontiac Grand Am was recovered today in the 400 block of E. Thompson Lane and has been impounded for processing.
