Harmony Warfield Shooting: Nashville Police Seek Man After Toddler Shoots Cousin
Metro Police say a 27-year-old man ran from the Lewis Street apartment after a 2-year-old accidentally shot her 7-year-old cousin Tuesday.
NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Police are looking for a man they said ran away from the scene of the fatal shooting of 7-year-old Harmony Warfield by her 2-year-old cousin Tuesday afternoon.
Youth Services detectives say Harmony was in the apartment with four other relatives, her 29-year-old aunt, and children ages 14, 11 and 2. The children were in the kitchen area when a shot was heard. The 14-year-old reported that the 2-year-old boy was holding a pistol. Harmony was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died. The pistol has not been recovered. Detectives were told that the 29-year-old’s friend, Anthony P. Sanders, 27, was outside when the shot was fired, went inside the apartment to see what happened, and then ran from the area. Sanders is being sought for questioning to determine what knowledge he has about the gun.

Harmony was a student at Purpose Preparatory Academy. The school released a statement.
“Our hearts grieve the passing of our very own scholar, Harmony Warfield. Our condolences go out to Harmony’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time," the statement said. "Harmony was a bright child with a positive and caring disposition. She was always smiling and would often walk throughout the hallways with her arms extended ready to hug the next person she saw. She was an avid reader and was always eager to learn new concepts. She loved engaging in activities and field trips with her peers and classmates, and she was a leader in her classroom.”

Funeral arrangements for Harmony have not yet been released.
